該 port 需要 OpenSSL library ─ 而這東西屬於 FreeBSD crypto distribution。
但你機器上當初安裝時沒裝，所以裝一下就可以了。
另外我猜你的應該是 FreeBSD 4.X，
打 /stand/sysinstall 然後 Configure -> Distributions 然後把
[ ] crypto Basic encryption services 打勾安裝應該就可以了
目前的 Handbook 涵蓋範圍主要以 6.3-RELEASE 以及 7.0-RELEASE 為主。
在 http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/ 首頁前幾句就有寫
"
This handbook covers the installation and day to day use of FreeBSD
6.3-RELEASE and FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE. ... (previous versions of this handbook
can be obtained from http://docs.FreeBSD.org/doc/)."
所以舊的內容請到 http://docs.freebsd.org/doc/ 去翻，
Handbook 向來內容都主要是以當時 -STABLE branch 為主。
